BUU YAO, NIMBA COUNTY — Former Nimba County District #5 Representative Candidate, Kortor S. Kwagrue’s swift declaration that he will contest for the District’s Representative seat in the pending Representative By-election has drawn support from hundreds of thousands of citizens across the region.
It can be recalled that during the 2023 General Elections, Mr. Kwagrue came second to a former representative now senator-elect of Nimba, Samuel G. Korga, securing a total of 5,081 votes.
The district has the total of 29,823 voters, according to the National Elections Commission 2023 registered voters’ data.
The Nimba County District #5 is located in an eastern portion of the county, bordering with Ivory Coast.
In accordance with Article 37 of the 1986 Liberian Constitution, the Legislature will promptly notified the National Elections Commission of the vacancy for Nimba County District #5 Representative seat within the stipulated 30-days period.
Upon receipt of vacancy notification from the House of Representatives of Liberia, NEC will immediately proceed with electoral processes, including the announcement of vacancy for a Representative seat in Nimba District 5.
The ensuing Representative By-election arose due to the outcomes of the just ended April 22, 2025 Nimba Senatorial By-election.
Representative Samuel G. Korga out of seven candidates was elected as Senator of Nimba County, replacing the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson who passed away on November 28, 2024, after winning his third term election in 2023.
Reaching out to people of the district for consultation on his intention to run for the district representative seat, Mr. Kortor Kwagrue was warmly greeted by jubilant crowds of people of district #5 who described him as the “Messiah.”
In both Judaism and Christianity, the “Messiah” refers to an anointed one, a savior or liberator, often associated with the idea of a future king or leader who will usher in a period of peace and restoration.
Mr. Kwagrue touched down the district Wednesday on an engagement tour that will leave no towns and villages untouched, as he will have series of meetings with local opinion leaders, including town chiefs, elders, youths, women and other auxiliaries in the district.
Speaking to reporters, scores of jubilant supporters highlighted Kwagrue’s development impact on the larger community as well as his benevolent services toward youth capacity building.
According to them, Mr. Kwagrue has over the years demonstrated exceptional leadership role void of politics, adding that for his goodwill to address major challenges that faced their community and citizens best informed their decisions to rally support for this representative bid.
In his professional career as construction engineer, Mr. Kwagrue has carried out major construction of infrastructures and the provision of basic social services across the district during and after the 2023 Representative elections in the area.
The citizens are expressing strong support for Kwagrue’s initiative to implement major development interventions in their district.
This support likely stems from a desire for improved infrastructure, economic opportunities, and overall quality of life in the region.
Mr. Kwagrue’s commitment to tangible change has resonated with the community, fostering a sense of hope and optimism for the future.
Majority citizens and supporters of Kwagrue, comprising of chiefs, elders, women, and young people stressed how his work with the district has become a beacon of hope towards change.
“There’s nothing better than having a
son like Kortor Kwagrue that we believe in and we are lucky enough to have him and to give him our support and blessings,” the group stated.
The people of Electoral District #5 of Nimba County who are expected to go to elections in the coming days to elect a next representative that will replace Senator-Elect, Samuel Korga are now leading plans for a massive support rally for Kortor Kwagrue to serve the responsive leadership role of the district at the House of Representatives.
The group further expressed confidence in Kwagrue’s leadership charisma from education, health, social work, voluntary and community work tirelessly to improve young people’s lives.
“Over the past years, Kortor Kwagrue demonstrated the immense potential of young people when given personalized and empowering support,” they said.

This knowledge includes engineering principles, materials, methods, and technologies, along with a strong understanding of project management, risk analysis, relevant regulations, and others.
Mr. Kwagrue is the vision bearer of Victoria Kwagrue Construction Company (VKCC) with head office in Ganta City, Nimba County.
The roots of Victoria Kwagrue Construction Company can be traced to decades ago, when Kortor Kwagrue began learning the concrete trade at his teenage.
Currently, the Victoria Kwagrue Construction Company is the key implementor of the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung projects across Nimba County.
