MONROVIA: The Orange Foundation, in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, over the weekend officially launched a state-of-the-art Computer Lab in Monrovia. The initiative is part of the foundation’s broader commitment to digital inclusion.

Speaking at the launched held at the SOS Children Villages Liberia, Orange Liberia Foundation Senior Manager, Uomah B. Witherspoon, also said it aims to provide access to technology and promote digital equality by transforming existing structures into modern computer labs it also aims at empowering students and community dwellers with the tools, confidence and opportunities needed to excel in a digital world and to also ignite the future of Liberians to the Digital world.

Madam Witherspoon, lauded SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia for the partnership and said the digital lab aimed at empowering citizens through digital technologies focusing on training researchers for students and community dwellers to explore how digital technologies can enhance community engagement and civic participation.

She used the occasion to encourage all community members and participating schools to participate in initiatives that promote digital inclusion, ensuring everyone has access to information and communication technologies.

She noted that, it is crucial for modern community building adding that, this initiative will not only benefit individuals but also foster a sense of community ownership and collaboration, and also encourage them to take their learning seriously by understanding the cognitive challenges that can interfere with their studies.

Speaking earlier, an official of the SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, Mr. Nehmah Yeanay landed the SOS Children’s Villages Liberia, Orange Foundation, for their partnership stressing that the Orange Foundation has worked with the SOS Children’s Villages Liberia, in other areas and expressed the hope that it will continue.

SOS Children’s Villages was founded in 1949 by a young Austrian medical student, Hermann Gmeiner, who witnessed the suffering of many orphaned and abandoned children after World War II and felt that something had to be done to help.

The acronym “SOS” stands for “Societas Socialis.”
