Executive Mansion, Monrovia:-A delegation from the United Methodist University led by its Interim President Cllr. Medina Wesseh, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, paid a courtesy visit with His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

The delegation comprised of the renowned Philanthropist, Dr. Deborah Rose, who is the President of Helping Africa Foundation (HAF), and Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director of HAF, and Mr. Jonathan Weisner, Deputy Executive Director of HAF.

Cllr. Wesseh briefed the President on developments at the United Methodist University including digital education for Liberian students without using the internet. She informed the President that, in addition to her great interest in Liberia, Dr. Rose was in the country to also serve as the commencement convocation speaker at the Institution’s 2026 graduation exercises.

The delegation also discussed the remodeling of schools and their engagement with the Ministry of Education in the process. Dr. Rose expressed how pleased she was to meet with President Boakai and to share her plans for digital transformation in Liberia through the United Methodist University.

The Liberian Leader fondly traced his own history with the Methodist educational institution, including his attendance of the College of West Africa Secondary School from where he graduated as President of the Student Council Government. He also recalled his involvement in the establishment of the United Methodist University.

Dr. Rose and President Boakai reflected on the life of Dr. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois (popularly known as W.E.B. Du Bois) and spoke of plans to erect a monument in the memory of this towering black American civil rights advocate and educator.

Dr. Du Bois visited Liberia before later going to Ghana where he died in August of 1963. He once served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Liberia by United States President Calvin Coolidge, the capacity in which he attended the inauguration of Liberian President Charles D.B. King in the 1920s.

The Liberian Chief Executive extended the gratitude of the Liberian nation to Dr. Rose, other partners and people of goodwill who are taking off their time and resources to make some positive impact on the lives of Liberians. Both the President and Dr. Rose exchanged goodwill gifts and pledged to remain in touch so as to ensure that plans being pursued by the Helping Africa Foundation materialize.

Also sitting in the meeting with Dr. Rose were Mr. Kofi Boateng of the W.E.B. Du Bois Foundation, Mr. Kafui Prebbie, CEO of IMPLEMENTERS, and Madam Laurin Assiamah-Yeboah, Head of Portfolio & Operations of IMPLEMENTERS.
