Monrovia – Moments before today’s critical leadership vote, Montserrado County District #11 Representative Richard Nagbe Koon made a final appeal to colleagues: “Reaffirm the decision you took in the joint chamber. If you can reaffirm that decision, it shows that you are the majority.”

However, this didn’t go down well with some lawmakers as they referenced the Supreme Court ruling that described it illegal. The House is now preparing to elect a new Speaker after months of legislative paralysis that has crippled governance and eroded public trust.

The nomination process saw Montserrado County District #7 Representative Emmanuel Dahn nominating Richard Nagbe Koon, Montserrado County District #6 Representative Samuel Enders putting forward Musa H. Bility.

In selerate statements, the candidates presented different visions. Representative Musa Bility positioned himself as a reformer: “We have refused to do our work for seven months… Today we have a chance to restore order. Under my leadership, I will serve Liberia’s interest first – ensuring effective oversight, merit-based committee assignments, and revising the controversial January 15, 2025 agreement.”

Representative Richard Nagbe Koon appealed: “I just want you to reaffirm the decision you took in the joint chamber. If you can reaffirm that decision it shows that you are the majority.” The voting process has commenced.
