Monrovia, Liberia — Representative Moimah Briggs Mensah has declared her readiness to support the removal of House Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa should he fail to maintain a quorum, despite reaffirming her respect for the Supreme Court of Liberia’s authority.

In a statement issued Monday, Rep. Mensah, currently attending an official ECOWAS event in The Gambia, emphasized her commitment to transparency and accountability amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the House of Representatives.

“Upon the conclusion of my engagements in The Gambia, I will proceed to Cape Verde to participate in the Annual Meeting of the WAHO Financial Support Steering Committees of ECOWAS Member States,” she clarified, addressing rumors about her absence from recent legislative proceedings.

While pledging to “fully abide” by the Supreme Court’s decisions recognizing Hon. Koffa as Speaker, Mensah asserted that her loyalty lies with the people and the principles of good governance.

“I must make it clear: I am duty-bound to sign in favor of the removal of the Court-recognized Speaker, Hon. Jonathan Koffa, should he fail to produce a quorum; since it’s evident that he has lost the moral authority over the majority of House members,” she stated.

Mensah lamented the perception of the first branch of government as disorganized and ineffective, vowing to contribute to a shift in that narrative.

“For too long, our Legislature has been viewed as unserious and troublesome. I am committed to changing this narrative,” she said.

She stressed that no individual, institution, or government stands above the will and interests of the people, describing a “well-functioning, transparent, and law-abiding Legislature” as central to Liberia’s democratic health.

“As the Rule of Law drafts proposals to resolve the current impasse, and the ‘Majority Bloc’ seeks court redress, it is crucial that the Legislature restores its honor, dignity, and seriousness,” Rep. Mensah urged.

She concluded by calling on her legislative colleagues to join her in reclaiming the respect and trust of the Liberian people.
