Electoral District #5 Representative Eugine Kollie has reemphasized his support for the election of Fonati Koffa as Speakership of the incoming 55th National Legislature.
Rep. Kollie told a Women Voices interview Wednesday that Koffa has the requisite Leadership experience, and has all it takes to be Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He noted that the Deputy Speaker has demonstrated impactful leadership over the years concerning the 54th Legislature, and electing him as Speaker could bring more dividends to members of the 55th National Legislature.
The District #5 lawmaker argued to have a balance of power in the Legislature, it’s prudent to have some opposition figures in top positions like the Speakership rather than occupying top-notch positions with only members of the incoming ruling Unity Party.
He believes when there’s a share of power with checks and balances in the Legislature, everyone would work in the interest of the Liberian people void of party sentiment.
He disclosed that at the moment there are over 35 notable members of the Legislature, who have reaffirmed their commitment to the Speakership bid of Deputy Speaker Fonati Koffa.
As it stands, there are a series of controversies surrounding the Speakership elections as President George Weah of the CDC, and incoming President and Standard Bearer of the Unity Party Joseph Boakai are supporting both Fonati Koffa and Richard Koon respectively.
