-McGill Claims Innocence and Welcomes a DNA Test

By Jerromie S. Walters

MONROVIA, Liberia – A medical report in the alleged rape case against Bryant McGill, suspended Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, confirms specific allegations of penetration by a penis and further indicates that ejaculation occurred. The location was indicated as the vagina. McGill has since denied the (rape) allegation and has also not been arrested.

The report, obtained by this paper, was conducted in September and issued by the Ministry of Health. It provides a harrowing firsthand account from the survivor and detailing the forensic evidence collected by health officials. The clinical examination noted the patient’s general appearance as “normal,” with no external injuries recorded on her head, face, chest, back, arms, or legs.

However, a separate diagrammatic sheet, used to annotate physical findings, includes notes of “abrasion seen on perineal body,” indicating physical evidence consistent with trauma in the genital area.

As part of the standard protocol for such cases, the report confirms that a full forensic evidence collection kit was prepared. This included the collection of swabs and slides from oral, vaginal, cervical, and anal areas to preserve potential DNA evidence.

In a section titled “Patient’s Description of Incident,” the document records the survivor’s own words. She stated that a man forced himself on her, and despite her fighting back, he assaulted her. The account alleges, “This same man had sex with me before in his car… When he finished I saw [blood] between my legs.”

McGill Denies the Allegation

In his first public statement since being accused of raping the 14-year-old minor, J. Bryant McGill has declared his innocence and welcomed a conclusive DNA test, following a police investigation that found no evidence linking him to the crime. The statement comes on the heels of a preliminary report from the Inspector General of Police, which confirmed that the Liberia National Police (LNP) has exhausted all investigative avenues and is now seeking international assistance to conduct a definitive DNA analysis.

“On the advice of my lawyer, Cllr. Lafyette O. Gould… I had deliberately refrained from making public comments during the investigation,” McGill stated. “Now that the Police have provided clarity, confirming that the only remaining step is a DNA test, I wish to once again reaffirm my position: I am innocent and I have nothing to hide.”

McGill revealed he has voluntarily surrendered his personal cell phone for forensic scrutiny and his passport to the authorities. This move, he explained, was to dispel “false rumors circulated on radio and social media that I had fled the country.”

He categorically denied ever knowing or interacting with the accuser. “I have never met her in a one-on-one talk, spoken to, or had any form of engagement with the child in question,” McGill asserted. “She has never been in my vehicle or visited my office.”

To substantiate his alibi, McGillstated that on Saturday, August 30, 2025, he was at Alpha Field in Paynesville from morning until mid-afternoon with his sports team, later returning home to watch football matches. On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, he claims to have left work early due to a significant finger injury, directly contradicting the alleged timeline of events. On Thursday, August 28, 2025: he followed his standard routine, returning directly home after work.

“My office at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex is often active with colleagues, friends, and visitors,” McGill noted, implying that his public profile makes secretive activity implausible. He vows, “I will fully avail myself for any DNA test or additional procedure required to bring this matter to a close.”

He expressed gratitude to the police for their “professional and transparent” handling of the case and thanked civil society and human rights advocates for championing due process.

“This has been a painful and humiliating ordeal, but I hold no resentment,” McGill concluded. “I trust that the truth is emerging… I ask for calm, objectivity, and fairness. I stand by my integrity, my service to country, and my faith in justice. I did not commit this act.”

The Incident and McGill’s Suspicious Special Treatment:

The alleged assault took place on August 30, 2025, after the 13-year-old daughter of Christopher Davis, the Deputy Chief of Security for Administration at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, traveled to the Ministry to deliver items to her aunt’s canteen. When she did not return home for several hours, her family grew concerned and launched a search, eventually finding her as she was riding home on a motorcycle.

The case was immediately reported to the Liberia National Police. Despite mounting pressure from civil society, including the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), the Women’s Legislative Caucus, and prominent human rights lawyer Tiawan Saye Gongloe—all demanding McGill’s immediate arrest—the police have maintained a methodical public stance.

This has fueled accusations of preferential treatment and raised public concern that political connections may be undermining the equal application of the law.
While McGill remains free, another case proceeded swiftly: Sando Kromah, a 34-year-old contractor with the Ministry of Agriculture, was remanded to Monrovia Central Prison on September 30, 2025, after being charged with statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl. Under Liberian law, statutory rape is a non-bailable first-degree felony.
