CESTOES CITY, Rivercess County – The international call to “Give to Gain” took on a literal meaning in Rivercess County over the weekend as citizens and officials gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with a powerful message of empowerment and a series of generous donations.
The program, held in Cestoes City, was a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s Rivercess County office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Office of the County Superintendent. The highlight of the occasion was a keynote address delivered by Madam Wheamar Dordy Banney-Krah, who was specially invited by the Office of the Rivercess Gender Coordinator to speak on the global theme, “Give to Gain.”
In her address, Madam Banney-Krah delivered a stirring message of renewed energy, courage, and hope, not only for the women of Rivercess but for women across Liberia. Her speech resonated deeply with attendees, setting a tone of solidarity and motivation for the day’s events.
Following her address, Madam Banney-Krah and her husband, Mr. Krah, put the theme into action through a series of significant donations to key groups within the county. The initiative, she explained, stemmed from her personal passion for supporting the needy and commemorating the importance of IWD.
Her philanthropic gesture began with a visit to the county’s disability community, where she donated 15 bags of rice and 16 gallons of cooking oil to support persons living with disabilities (PWDs).
Madam Banney-Krah then proceeded to the St. Francis Hospital in Cestos, where she donated a range of essential consumable supplies. The hospital received items including baby pampers, sanitary pads, and other critical medical consumables to support patients and new mothers.
In addition to the support for the disability community and the health sector, donations were also made to adolescent girls, primarily school-going students, as well as to several women’s groups across the county. The donations included two sets of jerseys, likely intended to support local sports and youth engagement initiatives.
