-Launches Initiative to Uplift Them

Monrovia, Liberia – On Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., Madam Synleseh Stephenie Dahn-Koung, the Second Lady of Liberia, will officially launch her flagship initiative, Empower Her, at the Monrovia City Hall. This significant event will bring together senior government officials, development partners, diplomats, civil society representatives, and hundreds of women and girls living with disabilities from across Liberia.

Empower Her is a transformative national initiative led by the Second Lady to promote inclusion, equality, and opportunity for women and girls with disabilities. The initiative is set to benefit over 300 participants through comprehensive programs, including free vocational training, business support, and empowerment activities designed to enhance skills, build confidence, and foster independence.

This program was inspired by the first National Conference on the Status of Women with Disabilities in Liberia, hosted by the Second Lady in March 2025. The landmark conference brought together more than 600 women from all fifteen counties, allowing them to share their experiences and discuss persistent challenges in areas such as health, education, social protection, and empowerment. The insights and recommendations generated during this gathering laid the foundation for the Empower Her initiative.

Reflecting on the journey, Madam Dahn-Koung stated, “We listened, we learned, and we were inspired by the courage and determination of women living with disabilities. From those conversations, Empower Her was born—a national effort to transition from dialogue to action by creating meaningful opportunities for women and girls to gain skills, confidence, and independence.”

The launch event will also feature Ms. Hanane Ait Aissa, Founder and President of the Startup Grow Foundation in Morocco, as a special international guest, underscoring the growing global collaboration in the advancement of women’s empowerment and inclusion.

Expressing her gratitude, Madam Koung acknowledged all partners who have supported the Empower Her vision and reaffirmed her commitment to amplifying the voices of women and girls living with disabilities. “Empowerment is about creating space for potential to flourish and for voices to be heard. Together, we rise,” affirmed Madam Dahn-Koung.

Join us as we embark on this vital journey to uplift and empower women and girls living with disabilities in Liberia.
