Monrovia, Liberia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has lifted a judicial stay order, directing the Debt Court to resume proceedings in the ongoing legal dispute between the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and ElTEL Networks.
A communication from the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court, signed by Cllr. Sam Mamulu and bearing the Court’s official seal, instructed His Honor James E. Jones, Resident Judge of the Debt Court, to proceed with the case “in keeping with the law.”
The High Court’s directive follows its decision to decline a writ of prohibition sought by the petitioners, the Liberia Electricity Corporation. The LEC—represented by its Managing Director, senior officers, and authorized officials—had filed the petition against Judge James E. Jones as first respondent and ElTEL Networks, represented by Attorney-in-Fact Mr. Hans Armstrong, as second respondent.
The Supreme Court’s action was taken by directive of Her Honor Jamesetta H. Wolokolie, Associate Justice presiding in Chambers. The order affirms that jurisdiction rightfully remains with the Debt Court and mandates the case advance without further delay.
Consequently, the stay order originally issued on January 6, 2026, has been formally lifted, removing the final barrier to the case’s progression in the lower court.
