– ABIC Tells Pres. Boakai

MONROVIA – The Angie Brooks International Centre (ABIC) has expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for publicly recognizing its pivotal role in safeguarding Liberia’s peace and democracy.

The acknowledgment came during the President’s third State of the Nation Address on Monday, January 26, 2026. In his speech, President Boakai highlighted the work of the ABIC’s Women’s Situation Room, praising it as an “invaluable contribution” to national stability.

“We are pleased to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of the Angie Brooks Women’s Situation Room in promoting peace and democracy,” President Boakai stated. “It is also commendable that the United Nations Security Council has recognized them as an exemplary mechanism for monitoring potential hotspots and incidents involving violence, harassment, and intimidation.”

The President further indicated that the upcoming MRU Presidential Center would serve as a “significant resource” to support ABIC’s future initiatives.

In a formal response, the Eminent Women of the Women’s Situation Rooms across Africa and the ABIC Board of Directors issued a statement appreciating the presidential recognition. They described their mission as a “worthy cause” to which they remain steadfastly dedicated.

Addressing President Boakai directly, the statement declared: “We are gratified by your acknowledgement of our effort, and of a certainty, we will continue to collectively combat the ills that so often threaten our peace and democracy.”

The Women’s Situation Room, pioneered by ABIC, is a conflict prevention and mitigation model that deploys trained women as monitors and mediators during election periods and other times of political tension. Its methodology, which focuses on early warning and rapid response to violence and intimidation, has earned it international acclaim, including formal recognition from the UN Security Council.
