The Women Federation World Peace International (WFWPI) Liberia is partnering with the Shara Community along Duport Road, Paynesville, to provide vocational skills training and academic education for young women, with emphasis on girls who dropped out of school due to pregnancy and related challenges.
Rev. Cecelia Duo, Executive Director of WFWPI, made the disclosure over the weekend during an engagement and awareness program held in connection with the construction of a modern school facility in the community.
According to Rev. Duo, construction of the school structure will be completed before the end of the school year. She noted that once completed, the school will employ qualified teachers from the community and provide educational opportunities for out-of-school children. She said enrolling children in a school that offers a continuum of education from nursery to elementary level will help give them a strong educational foundation.
Rev. Duo assured residents that WFWPI is committed to delivering meaningful services in the Shara Community, while urging the community to take ownership of the initiative. She named sewing, tailoring, cosmetology, pastry-making, and soap-making as some of the vocational skills to be offered under the program. “These programs will help you gain financial independence and improve your lives,” Rev. Duo emphasized.
She further stressed that awareness programs are critical to empowering women and promoting gender equality, adding that her passion for women’s empowerment will continue to guide WFWPI’s work in the community. WFWPI has implemented several education and youth empowerment initiatives globally. According to Rev. Duo, the Shara Community project forms part of the organization’s broader effort to promote peace and education. WFWPI’s intervention in Liberia continues to serve as a model for community development.
