The Angie Brooks International Center for Women Empowerment Leadership Development International Peace and Security through its flagship program the Women Situation Room on Saturday, November 11, 2023, continued her peer to peer engagement with disadvantaged youth across the country.

The Saturday Peer to Peer Engagement with Disadvantaged Youth was intended to disabuse the minds of young people from engaging into electrical violence ahead of the November 14, 2023, Presidential runoff Elections.

The peer engagement program which brought together over 1000 at risk youth from the suburb of New Georgia was held at the 88 Entertainment Center, New, Georgia. And had in attendance the Sweden Ambassador, EU Ambassador, EU Observation Missions.

In an overview, the establishment coordinator of the Angie Brooks International Center and the initiator of the women situation room, Cllr. Dr. Yvette Cheeson-Wureh admonished the disadvantaged youth not to get in the streets and engaged in electoral voilance.

Urging them not to be influenced by politicians to cause violence that has the propensity of ruining the peace of Liberia and return Liberia to its dark days.

Cllr. Cheeson-Wureh further urged the disadvantaged youth to listen to the results and take it peacefull, and if there exist and dissatisfaction they should make use of the court. “Listen to the results, take them and remain peaceful. If you are not sartify go to the court.” Said, Cllr. Cheeson-Wureh.

She continued by enlightening the young people on the legal process in channeling dispute during during and after elections. stating that it is the best way to maintain the peace and security of Liberia. “If something is going on at the polling place and you don’t like it, ask for the complaint form and fill it; take a photo of it and follow the legal procedure and help your political party maintain the peace.”

At the same time, former Foreign Minister, and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of ABIC, OluBankie King-Akerele, urged the disadvantaged youths not to destroy themselves by getting engage in electoral violence because violence has the propensity to lead Liberia back to the dirk days. She added that by doing so, they will destroy the future of Liberia and they are the future of Liberia.

“You are the future of the nation, we are older now and you are the ones to take our place. Therefore, do not destroy yourselves.

Respect the rules of law and do not get in voilance and destroy others.

Because we are who we are because others played their role.”

For her part, the EU Ambassador to Liberia Nona Deprez, said the EU is here to support the conduct of peaceful Elections in Liberia and to help the Disadvantaged Youth. She at the same time Liberian electorates to conduct themselves peacefully and call the WSR toll free code 2023 to report election related malpractice and violence.

In furtherance, the Swedish Ambassador to Liberia  Urban Sjostrim intimated that the international observers have access the elections and found out that the process has been very good. The Swedish diplomat urged the disadvantaged youths to use every peaceful means to solve challenges.

“Though there are challenges during elections, but there are mechanism in dealing with the problems.

Therefore, there is no need for fighting and causing distrotion.” He admonished them to be ambassadors of peace, because all what Liberia needs is peace. “Be an ambassador of peace because all what Liberia needs is peace. With peace you can have development as a nation. So, join me to be peace ambassador.”
