Monrovia, Liberia – The National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) on Friday inducted its new Director General, Hon. Hassan Kayazolu, at a ceremony attended by senior government officials, lawmakers, concessionaires, and representatives from political and business institutions. The event marked what many officials described as a renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and stronger concession management across Liberia.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Mansion, a presidential representative congratulated the new Director General and reaffirmed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s confidence in his leadership.
He emphasized that the government expects the NBC to play a central role in digitizing all concession processes, strengthening compliance systems, and improving coordination with concessionaires and affected communities.
“This induction comes at a crucial time,” the representative said. “Our goal is modernized operations, transparent monitoring, and a concession regime rooted in integrity.”
Representatives of concession companies, including APM Terminals and Western Cluster Limited, extended their congratulations and committed to working closely with the NBC to uphold professional and regulatory standards. They also highlighted key operational challenges impacting their sectors, calling for continued collaboration with government to address infrastructure and logistical gaps.
Lawmakers attending the ceremony pledged legislative support and urged concessionaires to strictly adhere to Liberian labor laws, including hiring quotas for Liberians and obligations to host communities.
“Compliance must be non-negotiable,” a senator remarked. “Our people should directly benefit from the resources taken from their land.”
Officials from the Ministry of Finance stressed the importance of concession revenue to Liberia’s national budget, urging companies to remain fully compliant with tax obligations and government reporting requirements.
The program concluded with renewed calls for effective monitoring, strengthened partnerships, and a unified commitment to ensuring that Liberia’s concession sector contributes meaningfully to national development.
