MONROVIA, Liberia— A 30-year-old woman, identified as Comfort Flomo, is appealing for urgent medical assistance and justice after alleging that a surgical procedure performed at the Mawa Clinic in Vai Town left her in severe and prolonged pain.

Speaking in an emotional account of her experience, Flomo alleged that she underwent surgery at the clinic in November 2025 but has since suffered serious health complications.

According to Flomo, her family initially took her to Mawa Clinic in October 2025 when she became ill. She said her sister paid LD$10,000 for laboratory tests ahead of the planned surgical procedure.

Madam Flomo alleged that laboratory personnel informed her family about her medical condition and assured them that the clinic was capable of performing the required surgery.

She further claimed that she underwent an ultrasound examination the following day and that her family was charged approximately US$6,00 for the procedure. According to her account, the family later made additional payments to the clinic in connection with her treatment ( US $550 ).

Flomo alleged that the surgery did not go as planned and claimed that medical personnel operated on her on four different occasions. She said she experienced intense pain following the procedures and alleged that surgical cotton was left inside her body.

According to Flomo, after she was discharged from the clinic, a medical worker identified as Ezekiel was assigned to provide follow-up care at her home. However, she alleged that the care she received was inadequate.

She said she continues to experience severe abdominal pain and has noticed an unpleasant odor from her body since the surgery.

In an emotional appeal, Flomo further alleged that she has not experienced her menstrual period since undergoing the surgery in November 2025.

“From the day they worked on me, I have not seen my period yet,” Comfort Flomo said.

She said her family later returned to Mawa Clinic to seek answers regarding her worsening health condition. According to Flomo, they met with the clinic’s administrator and explained her condition, but she alleged that they were left without adequate assistance or a clear response.

Flomo is now appealing for financial support to seek specialized medical treatment at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center (JFK) or another qualified medical facility.

She is also calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her surgery and is seeking justice against the administration of Mawa Clinic.

The administration of Mawa Clinic couldn’t be reached up to the time of this publication.
