MONROVIA, – Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has extended assistance to secure the release of two pregnant women detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, even as she herself remains behind bars amid an ongoing drug investigation.
The women, identified as Kebbeh Pewee and Annie Kollie, were encountered by Madam Howard-Taylor during her detention at the facility . According to a statement from her office, the former Vice President was moved by their circumstances as pregnant detainees .
Court documents confirm that the Montserrado County Criminal Court “A” issued release orders for both women on August 28, 2026. The orders, signed by Clerk of Court Hector M. Dolo, granted the release based on a nolle prosequi filed by the prosecution .
Annie Kollie had been facing a manslaughter charge, while Kebbeh Pewee was detained on an aggravated assault charge . Both women are pregnant.
The assistance comes as Madam Howard-Taylor, 63, awaits trial on drug trafficking and related charges. She was arrested on August 19, 2026, at Roberts International Airport while attempting to leave the country, and later remanded to Monrovia Central Prison on August 25 . Her lawyers had requested she be released on humanitarian grounds or remain at a medical facility due to health concerns, including asthma and high blood pressure, but the court denied the request.
