Monrovia, Liberia — UN Women Country Representative Comfort Lamptey has been honored by the Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP), an occasion that also celebrated the resilience and leadership of Liberian women.

During the honoring program on Monday, Lamptey expressed deep gratitude to the women of Liberia and to Ambassador Julie Endee, who heads the LCP. She used the platform to issue a renewed call for the elimination of harmful cultural practices affecting women and girls. “I stand here filled with gratitude,” Lamptey said. “The leadership, courage, and potential of Liberian women continue to inspire not only this nation but women across the world.”

Madam Lamptey noted that Liberia’s women have gained global recognition for their roles in peacebuilding, governance, and community development, serving as role models whose impact extends far beyond national borders.

While celebrating these achievements, she also urged stakeholders to confront traditions that undermine dignity, health, and equality. “Our culture is powerful and meaningful, but we must ensure that it evolves in ways that protect and empower the next generation. Harmful practices have no place in a future where women and girls can thrive,” she said.

Madam Lamptey stressed the importance of preserving positive cultural values while challenging those that threaten the rights of women. She encouraged women leaders to take active roles in shaping cultural transformation and influencing legislative and social change. She also highlighted critical partnerships with UNICEF and government ministries on immunization, health communication, and child protection.

The UN Women Country Representative applauded the growing movement of women supporting one another in leadership. “Women supporting women is the foundation of progress,” she said. “Together, you are shaping the future of Liberia.”

Endee Reflects on Global Journey

The event also marked the return of renowned Liberian cultural icon Ambassador Julie Endee after international engagements. Speaking at the gathering, Endee expressed gratitude for her journey, describing reflection, guidance, and favor as pillars of her strength throughout years of service in peacebuilding.

She extended appreciation to the Government of Liberia, particularly the President, for advancing peace and development while providing her opportunities to represent Liberia globally. Endee also announced receiving multiple honors abroad, including the “100 Personalities Award” and a Global Personality recognition, which she dedicated to the people of Liberia.

“I am back, and I promise to continue the work,” Endee affirmed, pledging renewed commitment to promoting Liberia’s cultural heritage and strengthening peace initiatives. The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity among participants to advance the rights of women and girls.
