Some citizens of Bong County are calling on President Joseph Boakai to maintain his predecessor’s tuition-free policy for undergraduate students at public universities and colleges across Liberia.

The Bong County citizens also want Mr. Boakai to continue the payment of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations or WASSCE fees for 12th graders.

According to the citizens, attaching fees to credit hours at public universities and colleges and aborting the WASSCE fee payment would impose economic burdens on the impoverished and self-supported students.

“The fee for WASSCE is huge and some of us can’t afford it”, They added.

They also fear that doing so would make many self-supported students to drop out of school.

They want President Boakai and his Education Minister to be conscious of the economic crisis in the country and help the disadvantaged.

They made the call on a local radio station in Gbarnga-Radio Gbarnga.

It can be recalled, that former Liberian President George Weah in 2018, declared all public universities and colleges across the country free of tuition.

The declaration was a relief for many struggling students at the State-run University of Liberia and other public universities in Liberia.
