Health workers in Bong County have threatened to lay down their tools beginning November 15, 2023, if justice is not dispensed in a recent alleged assault on the Officer in Charge of the Gbonota Clinic.

It is being alleged that Allison Kollie was beaten by some supporters of Representative Marvin Cole and the CDC on the orders of the lawmaker over the weekend.

According to eyewitnesses, the situation ensued following the alleged interruption of a meeting the Unity Party campaign team had with some health workers at the Gbonota Clinic by Rep.  Cole and the CDC campaign team.  Representative Cole has denied the allegation levelled against him.

In a press statement read by the Obediah Kiamue, the District Health Officer for Jorquelleh District, the health practitioners stated that the violence meted against their colleague is barbaric and has instilled fears in many of them.

Allison Kollie is at JFK Hospital in Monrovia undergoing medications.

Receiving the health workers’ plights, the Minister of Health Dr. Wilhemina Jallah assured them that their concerns will be addressed.

She informed them that the Vice President and other government officials will be in the county soon to meet with them.

Also speaking, Bong County Police Commander Fasu Sheriff told the health workers that the matter is being investigated by the police; assuring them that justice will be served.

At the same time, two officials of the Bong County Health Team Joseph Carter and George Tamata have described the act as lawless and an attack on health workers in the county.

According to George Tamata, the Community Health Focal Person at the Bong County Health Team, they had gone to their regular community health meeting in Gbonota, when a team of Unity Party campaigners drove in to converse with them.

While speaking, Tamata said Representative Marvin of the CDC walked in with his supporters and interrupted the discussion; asking the Unity Party’s team to allow him to talk to the health workers.
