…Says, Motor Accident Must Be Reduced

The Center for Women and Children Empowerment through its Chief Executive Director Pastor Patience Blay-Attoh, on Friday, March 22, 2024, officially launched an awareness to educate drivers, and bikers, and keep riders on how to use the many traffic signals on the road.
Speaking at the occasion which was held at the Headquarters of the Liberia Business Association in Paynesville, pastor Patience Blay-Attoh stated that there is an urgent need to address the act of motor drivers deliberately ignoring the different traffic signs. Something she believes has led to dangerous motor accidents across the country.
She further urged the media to assist in educating drivers, riders, and pedestrians on how to correctly use the traffic signs that are posted along the roads.
Meanwhile, representative Momo Siafa Kpoto, chairperson of the House of the Representatives Committee on Road and Transport who spoke as the keynote speaker at the launch of the road safety awareness, provided his assurance to working with the Center for Women and Children Empowerment to ensure that awareness provided throughout the country, so that to reduce the danger of accident along the roads.
“For road safety awareness to reach across the fifteen counties, I will work along with you to ensure this is done. Once you are going out on a weekend, just tell me and I will be in attendance to make sure road safety awareness reaches the length and width of Liberia.”
At the same time, he provided that it is time for the government to start using the resources coming from the concession agreement to build the foundation for the next generation to start on. He said all motor roads and railways must be paved and constructed from proceeds collected from concession agreements.
So that the next generation will not have to face what this generation is facing to attain road safety.
“If we can not use those resources to start a foundation for the next generation to come and see what we have done, they will have from nowhere and this is what happened to us.
The previous generation did not think about this generation, so we are facing the problem of roads all across the country.”
Representative Kpoto continued by stating that President Boakai had given the committee on road and transport his assurance in improving the transportation sector of Liberia.
“The railway bill is on my desk and we are hoping that we will go through it by the time we resume. President Boakai has told us that he means well for this country and has assured us that we will work together to improve the transportation sector of this country so that we will not continue to face the same transportation situation we face on working days.”
Meanwhile, all relevant authorities associated with road safety, the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia National Police, the Ministry of Transport, the national road fund, and others in similar tune provided their assurance to working with the Center for Women and Children Empowerment to improve the transportation sector and services provided by motor operators across the country.
They promised to ensure the enforcement of the observance of road safety across the country.
