At the celebration held at the Chinese embassy in Monrovia, Grigsby called for exploring new avenues of cooperation in technology and sustainable development, which are crucial for empowering Liberia’s economy. He stressed that innovation and collaboration will drive the country’s growth and secure a brighter future for its citizens.
A notable aspect of this partnership is its focus on education. Chinese scholarships have provided opportunities for many Liberian students to pursue higher education, helping to cultivate a new generation of leaders. This commitment to developing human capital reflects the strength of bilateral relations.
Beyond economic ties, the collaboration fosters knowledge sharing and professional training programs, underscoring a commitment to building a skilled workforce in Liberia.
Grigsby acknowledged China’s remarkable achievements in economic development and poverty alleviation, noting that over 800 million people have been lifted out of poverty in recent decades. He referred to these accomplishments as a “miracle” and an inspiring model for Liberia’s development journey.
He also shared President Joseph Nyumah’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, focusing on agriculture, infrastructure, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism. This agenda aims to address the fundamental needs of Liberians while promoting economic growth and inclusivity.
Grigsby expressed hope for deeper economic cooperation with China, which he believes is crucial for enhancing development opportunities. Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung echoed this sentiment, praising China for its significant contributions to Liberia.
Ambassador Yin Yengwu highlighted recent successes in bilateral cooperation, including renewed agreements in maritime transport and agricultural cooperation, along with the launch of key development projects. He outlined future initiatives that will further support Liberia’s economic and social development.
