MONROVIA – The Episcopal Youth Council Montserrado Region (EYCMR) has provided relief and support to 60 newborn babies and their mothers through its “Bundle of Joy” Project at the Soniwein Community Clinic in Electoral District #8, Montserrado County.
The beneficiaries included 37 baby boys and 23 baby girls, whose mothers received essential baby supplies aimed at supporting early childcare and promoting maternal well-being.
The outreach initiative was led by Her Royal Highness Sis. Charlyn Hessou, the reigning Queen of EYCMR, as part of a community service project following her victory in the council’s queen contest. The project focused on identifying with mothers and newborns by donating diapers, baby clothes, feeding bottles, baby wipes, and other necessities.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Sis. Hessou said her passion for children inspired the initiative. She expressed happiness in being able to assist mothers and newborns and thanked supporters who contributed to the success of the project.
The Episcopal Youth Council Montserrado Region, a youth wing of the Episcopal Church of Liberia, continues to engage in activities aimed at improving the welfare of young people and vulnerable communities across Montserrado County.
EYCMR Coordinator Bro. Kwia S. Williams described the donation as a meaningful effort to support families and demonstrate the council’s commitment to community service. He thanked partners, church members, and volunteers whose contributions made the project possible.
Williams also encouraged continued collaboration and support for future outreach programs, emphasizing the importance of assisting vulnerable groups in society.
“We are grateful to everyone who played a role in making this initiative a success,” he said. “Our goal is to continue reaching out to communities and providing assistance where it is most needed.”
Also addressing the gathering, Bro. Daubeny Freeman Jr., First Vice President of the Diocesan Episcopal Youth Council (DEYC), praised the Montserrado Region for implementing a project that directly impacts the lives of mothers and children.
He noted that such initiatives reflect the positive role of young people within the church and encouraged other youth organizations to undertake similar humanitarian activities.
As part of the program, EYCMR presented certificates of appreciation to individuals and churches that contributed significantly to the success of the project. Among those honored were St. James Episcopal Church, St. Timothy Episcopal Church,, and Brother Joseph Crayton, who was recognized as the highest donor to the “Bundle of Joy” Project.
The event brought together church leaders, youth members, healthcare workers, mothers, and community residents, reinforcing the Episcopal Church’s commitment to social responsibility and community development.
