To raise awareness of road safety nationwide, Fortified City Media Network is working with the Center for Women and Children Empowerment,  CEWCE in  providing road safety management awareness to the entire citizenry. 

The initiative targets motorcyclists, drivers, Kekeh riders, and the entire citizenry. It is intended toknowledge on Road Safety management Across the Country.  The purpose of the awareness campaign, according to Chief Executive Director Pastor Patience Blay-Attoh, is to educate drivers, bikers, and kekehriders on how to use the many traffic signals on the road.

She clarified that for the last six months, people have been using different traffic signs, but they have not taken advantage of them, which has led to dangerous accidents. She went on to say that on Saturday, August 31, one person was confirmed dead after Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor’s motorcade’s lead car struck a taxicab close to Gate 15 on the Kakata-Monrovia highway in Margibi County.

According to reports, the former vice president was returning from Gbarnga, Bong County, where she had attended the Gboveh high school graduation ceremony. She urged the media in Liberia to help in educating drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and Kekeh riders on how to correctly use the different traffic signs that are posted on the road.

Nonetheless, Madam Blay-Attoh explained that in order to virtually reduce the excessive number of hazardous incidents that occur all across the nation, the Ministry of Transportation must work with neighborhood organizations to raise awareness of the numerous traffic signs along the road. According to Madam Blay-Attoh, if there is adequate awareness raised among the populace, the number of accidents will decrease nationwide. 

For this reason, the government, through the ministry of transportation, must enable other organizations to support their efforts in educating the populace about driving safety. It can be recalled that on Tuesday, August 22, three members of anauxiliary group supporting President George Weah’s reelection campaign perished in a horrific vehicle accident in Gbarnga, Bong County.

After the car carrying the “Girls for Weah” allegedly lost control and struck a truck that was stopped on the side of the road for police inspection, an afternoon accident caused the damage. Emergency personnel had a tough time freeing the six people inside the commercial van that the “Girls” were driving to a campaign event because of the collision’s extensive mutilation of the vehicle.

However, three of the auxiliary members passed away from their wounds, as indicated by medical professionals at the  Hospital. The police has however begun investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control at a high speed before colliding with the parked truck.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Weah-Taylor 2023 campaign committee, Lenn Eugene Nagbe, said that the President was deeply sorry for the loss and had suspended campaign activities for two days. The Chief Executive Officer also referenced the story of a teenager named Aisha Sheriff who was identified as the passenger in the fatal crash on Sunday, 30 October 2022, on the Stockton Creek Bridge, Bushrod Island. The incident is being investigated by the Liberia National Police (LNP). 

Aisha Sherifff was reported dead when the vehicle in which she was an occupant, heading from Paynesville along the Japan-Freeway route, drove off the main road and somersaulted into the river. “According to eyewitnesses who trooped the scene in sorrow, the teenage girl died in the crash, while her father Mohammed swam to safety and escaped the scene. there’s a need that the road users follow all rules and regulations to save lives. Motorcyclists should always use their headmet  andfootwear while on the traffic. Mostly the situation involving overloading of Kekeh, Taxi and Motorcycle is totally against the traffic rule’s and violators should pay some funds to government covers,” said Madam Blay_Attoh.

She stated that the national road safety management awareness campaign is a three-years project that will be spread throughout Liberia.  The energetic Chief Executive Officer used the occasion to appreciate the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Transport for the level of work done.
