The National Chairman of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Senator Daniel Naathen has been reported dead.

The Press Bureau of the Liberian Senate confirmed the report Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

As established, Senator Naathen died early this morning in India. 

The Gbarpolu County Senator was seeking re-election in the County, on the Alternative National Congress’ ticket.

In August 2022, Senator Daniel Naatehn  called on his colleagues to enshrine in the Drugs Law, a portion that will make all government officials subject to blood testing. 

According to him, blood testing should be done periodically on all government officials to detect whether or not any official is involved with the consumption of drugs.

The Gbapolu County Lawmaker said his quest to his colleagues is based on setting a path that will make government official drugs free.

Weeks ago, the public was also alerted about the death of Grand Bassa County Electoral District 1 Representative Hon. Hans Barchue.

According to his family, the late former Deputy Speaker died early Tuesday 18 July at the Europe Care Hospital in Monrovia following a period of illness. 

During his tenure as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Barchue was widely recognized for his exceptional leadership and impartiality.

He championed democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, ensuring that the voices of the people were heard and their concerns addressed. His relentless pursuit of transparency and accountability set a shining example for his fellow legislators and the nation at large.

Elected in 2011 Presidential and Legislative elections and reelected in the general election in 2017, the fallen lawmaker Barchue served as Deputy Speaker from January 2012 to January 2018 of the 53rd Legislature. 

Hours after his death, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers Tuessday 18 July led an array of Representatives to the home of fallen Grand Bassa County Electoral District 1 Representative Hon. Hans Barchue to sympathize with the bereaved Family.

Speaker Chambers said throughout his illustrious career, Hon. Hans Barchue demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to public service, leaving an indelible mark on the political landscape of our great nation. His passing is an irreplaceable loss for the people of Grand Bassa County, Liberia, and the entire political fraternity.

The Speaker on behalf of the Legislature, particularly the House of Representatives extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family for the irreparable loss sustained.
