– Demands Justice

Monrovia– The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep outrage over a violent armed robbery and rape of a 31-year-old woman in Mount Barclay, Montserrado County, calling for swift justice and increased community vigilance against sexual violence.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on June 26, when armed assailants broke into the victim’s home. The survivor recounted being threatened at knifepoint before one of the robbers raped her. Despite the trauma, she courageously reported the assault and sought immediate assistance.

The MoGCSP praised her bravery, stating, “We commend the survivor’s strength in seeking justice and urge all victims to break the silence.”  The Ministry swiftly coordinated medical and psychosocial support through the JDJ One-Stop Center, ensuring the survivor received critical care. Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has detained two persons of interest—a security guard assigned to the residence and a male relative of the survivor’s husband. Investigations are ongoing to determine their possible involvement.

MoGCSP strongly condemned the attack, reaffirming its commitment to holding perpetrators accountable. “No woman or child should endure such brutality,” the Ministry declared, urging the Ministry of Justice to expedite the case.  In response to the rising concerns over sexual violence, the Ministry is ramping up **community awareness campaigns** in Montserrado County, emphasizing prevention and early reporting. They also called on religious groups, political parties, and civil society to amplify anti-violence messaging.

The Ministry appealed to all Liberians to unite against gender-based violence, stressing: “We must stand together—report abuses, support survivors, and ensure no perpetrator escapes justice.” As investigations continue, authorities have relocated the survivor to a safe environment while she recovers.
