Monrovia — The House of Representatives has officially adjourned the First Quarter of the 3rd Session of the 55th Legislature, concluding a productive period of legislative work. Lawmakers are now on break and expected to resume plenary sittings in May 2026.

The quarter, which ran from January 15 to March 19, 2026, saw robust legislative and oversight activities aimed at advancing the country’s development agenda.

Delivering his closing remarks on Thursday, March 19, Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon provided a comprehensive breakdown of the House’s achievements over the period. According to the Speaker, the House convened for a total of 30 sittings, consisting of 20 regular sessions and 10 executive sessions, with no special sittings recorded.

In a review of the bills and instruments processed, Speaker Koon reported that the House acted on 23 legislative instruments. This total included the passage of four House bills and seven Executive bills, while the House also concurred with 10 bills originating from the Senate. One motion for reconsideration was noted, though no resolutions were passed during the quarter.

Beyond the plenary floor, committee rooms were equally active, considering a total of 26 legislative instruments. These comprised six House bills, six Senate bills, and 14 Executive bills, alongside two petitions from the public.

The Speaker also highlighted the House’s engagement with external stakeholders, noting 18 appearances made before Plenary by officials and representatives. Communications received and processed during the three-month span reached 115, breaking down into 99 communications from lawmakers, five from the Executive branch, 10 from various institutions, and one from an individual.

In total, the House recorded 215 distinct activities during the First Quarter. In his address to colleagues, Speaker Koon extended commendations to the members for their dedication, collaboration, and the legislative strides made during the session. He encouraged them to maintain close ties with their constituents throughout the intersessional break.

Extending thoughts to the Muslim community, Speaker Koon wished all observing the holy month of Ramadan peace and blessings, and called for continued unity and national solidarity.

With the First Quarter now concluded, the House of Representatives stands adjourned. Members are scheduled to reconvene in May 2026 to commence the Second Quarter of the 3rd Session.
