The House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the One China Principle in line with United Nations Resolution 2758, which recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of China at the United Nations.

Speaking on behalf of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nehker E. Gaye, emphasized that the People’s Republic of China has consistently demonstrated genuine friendship and partnership with Liberia through numerous developmental initiatives and bilateral cooperation over the years.

Hon. Gaye described China’s recent pronouncement of Zero Trade Tariff for African Union member states as a remarkable achievement that will significantly advance Sino-Africa trade relations and foster stronger economic cooperation across the continent.

The Foreign Affairs Committee Chair further noted that the invitation extended to Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, by her Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi of the People’s Republic of China, represents a major boost to Liberia-China relations, particularly as Liberia continues to play a critical role on the United Nations Security Council.

According to Hon. Gaye, the People’s Republic of China remains a trusted ally to Liberia, contributing significantly to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, and other critical sectors aimed at improving the lives of the Liberian people.

He further stated that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, along with members of the House, remains committed to strengthening the longstanding diplomatic ties between Liberia and China for the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples.

“Liberia values its historic relationship with the People’s Republic of China and deeply appreciates the continued support being provided through various development programs and cooperation agreements,” Hon. Gaye stated.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair stressed that the Legislature fully supports Liberia’s foreign policy position regarding the One China Principle and remains steadfast in promoting constructive international partnerships.

The House of Representatives also reaffirmed its readiness to continue engaging with international partners in promoting peace, development, economic cooperation, and diplomatic relations that advance Liberia’s national interests.
