The House of Representatives has mandated its Joint Committees on Education and Public Administration, Good Governance, and Ways, Means, and Finance to review a draft bill seeking the establishment of the Legislative Institute of Liberia (LIL) and report back to Plenary within two weeks.

The decision followed the submission of the draft legislation by Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative, Foday E. Fahnbulleh.

In his communication to Plenary, Representative Fahnbulleh formally submitted the proposed legislation titled: “An Act to Establish the Legislative Institute of Liberia (LIL) as a Professional Training, Research, and Policy Institution of the Legislature.”

Addressing the Honorable Speaker and distinguished colleagues, Representative Fahnbulleh emphasized that the proposed institute would serve as a semi-autonomous institution aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Legislature through education, research, and policy development.

According to the lawmaker, the Legislative Institute of Liberia would provide professional training opportunities for lawmakers, legislative staff, and members of the public. Additionally, the institution would conduct independent policy research and contribute to improving legislative effectiveness and institutional capacity.

Representative Fahnbulleh further requested that the bill be formally received, read, and forwarded to the appropriate committees for timely consideration and review.

The proposed establishment of the Legislative Institute of Liberia reflects ongoing efforts toward strengthening institutional capacity, promoting informed policymaking, and enhancing the overall performance of Liberia’s legislative processes.
