NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — The Judiciary of Liberia has commenced expansion work at the 8th Judicial Circuit Court Complex in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, with construction ongoing at the upper floor to provide additional courtroom and administrative space.

The project includes two additional courtrooms and office spaces, expected to accommodate the operations of the Labor Court and Probate Court and help ease existing space constraints at the judicial complex.

The expansion comes amid efforts by the Judiciary to strengthen judicial infrastructure and bring specialized justice services closer to residents outside Monrovia.

In August 2026, the Judiciary seated Cllr. Tarlo N. Wehyee as Judge of the Labor Court in Nimba, marking the establishment of the county’s first dedicated Labor Court. The court is intended to improve access to justice for workers, employers and other parties involved in labor-related disputes.

The expansion is also expected to provide additional space for the Probate Court and other judicial functions operating within the 8th Judicial Circuit.

The Nimba judicial complex was dedicated in September 2017 to accommodate various judicial institutions and improve access to justice in the county.

Once completed, the expansion is expected to provide a more suitable environment for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and other justice-sector stakeholders while increasing the capacity of the 8th Judicial Circuit.

Construction workers are currently carrying out masonry and other building activities on the upper floor as the project progresses.
