Five Senior officials of the Ministry of Labour have undergone an intensive three – week intensive labor training from the National Prosecutors College in collaboration with the Central University of Finance and Economic in China to enhance labour related matters in Liberia.
The Assistant Minister of Labour and Special Assistant to the Minister of Labour, Stanley Barh made the disclosure on Wednesday, May 27, 2025 upon the Senior Labour officials returned from the People’s Republic of China .
Assistant Minister Barh said the rigorous labour training offered by the Commerce Ministry of China for Senior Officials of the MOL is grounded in capacitating it to deliver effectively on its agenda and programs as enshrined the Arrest Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
The Senior Officials include: Hon. Stanley D. Barh, Sr., Mr. Charles S. Brown, Inspector General of Liberia, Mr. Eric W. Dahn, Director of Alien Registration, Mr. Emmanuel Z. Gweh, Director Workmen’s Compensation and Mr. Harris Y. Yeanamie, Financial Comptroller.
Assistant Minister Barh indicated that the weeks long training offered experiences in labour administration management, labour standards, recruitment approaches , employment and health safety, workmen compensation and benefits for employees, collective bargaining amongst others.
” The training offered a new and better way to execute labour related matters,” Assistant Minister Barh said. ” It offered new horizons on internationally accepted standards,” he added.
He emphasized the role of collective bargaining in the training as related to global labour issues.
” The issue of collective bargaining offered effective insights into works of concessions and their relationship with their employees,” Assistant Minister Barh stated.
He further expressed delight in the training in the area of trade unionization and industry issues.
The Assistant Liberian Labour Minister used the training to appeal for the merger of the Liberian Labour laws.
Currently, Liberia has two Labour Laws; the Decent Work Act and the Civil Service Standing Orders.
Assistant Minister Barh said he presented the issue of harmonizing both laws in in the interest of the labour sector of Liberia .
According to him, combining both laws will ensure labor harmony in the labor sector .
Furthermore, he said the seminar exposed the Liberian delegate to internationally accepted labour standards and added that the training will have significant impact on the work of the MOL.
