Monrovia, April 16, 2026 — LNTA forged a major partnership with the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), creating new opportunities for Liberia’s tourism businesses to expand, attract investment, and access international markets.

The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), is structured to deliver tangible business opportunities. It will directly connect Liberian tourism operators, including hotels, tour companies, and creative enterprises, to Malta’s established SME tourism network, creating new opportunities for partnerships and joint ventures.

At its core, the partnership prioritizes investment and enterprise development within Liberia’s tourism industry. By aligning with a Chamber-led ecosystem, the LNTA is positioning Liberia as an emerging destination for tourism-focused investment, encouraging private sector participation in infrastructure, destination services, and product development. The move is expected to stimulate business expansion, job creation, and increased economic activity.

The MOU, signed by LNTA Director General Princess Eva Cooper and Mr. Joe Galea, Chairman of the Tourism Operators Business Section of the Malta Chamber, will run for an initial period of five years. It provides a flexible framework for expanding collaboration into more structured commercial and investment agreements over time.

According to DG Cooper, “The partnership reflects a deliberate shift in Liberia’s tourism strategy toward a private sector-driven model”. By integrating business communities directly into sector development, the agreement aims to ensure that tourism growth translates into measurable economic benefits.

Malta, widely regarded as a high-performing tourism destination, has built a strong global presence through strategic branding, diversified tourism offerings, and sustained private sector engagement. Liberia is now seeking to leverage similar approaches as it works to position itself as a competitive tourism destination in West Africa.
