-Admonishes Liberians to be law-abiding

The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) is today, Friday, May 3, 2024, celebrating the annual Law Day under the Theme: “The Mechanisms to Establish the War & Economic Crimes Courts for Liberia”.
The LNBA says the 2024 Law Day celebration is expected to bring together members of the Bar, including the Chief Justice, Associate Justices, Counselors-at-Law, Attorneys-at-law, Circuit & Specialized Courts Judges, Magistrates, Law students, and Civil Society Organizations.
In a release issued on Tuesday, May 1, 2024, the LNBA says, Clir. Dr. Jallah A. Barbu, Dean of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law will serve as Keynote Speaker. Law Day celebration, LNBA avers, is meant to honor the Legal System and presents a day of national dedication to the principles of government under Law.
The 2024 Law Day celebration is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 3, 2024. at the Paynesville City Hall at 10 a.m….. beginning with a Law Day parade from the ELWA Junction at 8 a.m. mandating the presence of Lawyers in the bailiwick of the country.
Law Day celebration, according to an LNBA release, is held annually on the first Friday of May as a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law and provide
an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect civil liberty.

meant to reflect on the role of law in the foundation of the country and to
recognize its importance for society as well as cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system. The annual observance of Law Day has been noted in the Legal community for more than 60 years and brings up the roles of rule of law stakeholders in enhancing democratic values.
In a related development, the Leadership of the LNBA has welcomed the U S State
Department’s Release of the 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for Liberia and promises to collaborate with relevant institutions to promote respect for human rights and accountability for injustice. The Bar says, issues raised by the U.S. State Department in the 2023 country’s report include: arbitrary or unlawful killings, including extrajudicial killings; torture or cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment or punishment by the Liberian Government and life-threatening prison conditions etc are all grave issues that must be tackled to elevate Liberia’s human rights profile.
