The Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) is rallying collaboration among ministries and agencies of government to promote female football in Liberia.

The plea was made by the proxy of the Minister of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism, Assistant Minister for New Media and National Branding, Maylouisa Noel Hill, during the unveiling of the first female football logo in Liberia by the Liberia Football Association.

The unveiling of the Logo took place at the headquarters of the Liberia Football Association in Suakamore Community, Paynesville City, over the weekend.

Unveiling the Logo, Assistant Minister Hill commended the LFA for the innovation and strategic plan aimed at motivating and promoting female soccer in the country.

Minister Hill added that the move by the LFA represents not only a commitment to the development of sports in Liberia but also a vision and opportunity for every girl to play, grow, and thrive in football.

The Assistant Minister for New Media and National Branding noted that the Boakai-led government believes in fostering talent, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to pursue her passion in any field in the creative arts.

She named the encouragement of active citizenship as a major tool for national branding as one of the goals of MICAT, and sport is an integral part of the process.

“We are committed to helping increase citizens’ participation, celebrate talents and performance, and create a sustainable environment that empowers all Liberians to promote patriotism,” the minister said.

The Assistant Minister pledged MICAT’s commitment to amplify the voices of female athletes, showcase their talents and achievements, and inspire the next generation.

She used the occasion to call on ministries and agencies of government to work collaboratively to promote a brighter future for women in sports.

“Let’s continue to unite our efforts to create a vibrant community that champions female football and inspires change,” she added.

She continued, “Together, we can challenge the negative stereotypes and reshape the narrative around women in sport in Liberia.”

The MICAT representative at the program reminded all  Liberians that women’s soccer can only be promoted and rebranded through the collective efforts of everyone.
