NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA — Richard Gaye Gramie, a commercial motorcyclist who had gone missing for about two weeks, lifeless body was found under crushed rocks near Zokeseh Public School’s campus in Royal Community, Ganta City, Nimba County on Monday.

Richard, 20,  went missing on February 23, 2035. The father-of-one is believed to come from Ziah Old Town, Electoral District 9, Nimba County. Police investigators who reported to the scene however turned over the body to his family for burial, even though the cause of death remains unknown.

Residents of the Royal Community, including local authorities reported finding the body of the missing cyclist. While the identity was unconfirmed before the thorough background investigation, the results confirm that the recovered body is that of Richard Gaye Garmie, who went missing two weeks ago.

After being reported missing for days, search efforts were mobilized via social media by some families, with the help of his closest friends to locate the missing cyclist, if found.

After days of uninterrupted searches, volunteers discovered a body that matched Richard’s description. After locating the remains, volunteers activated a beacon to call in police in Ganta to recover and airlift the body for a thorough autopsy that later confirmed the identity.

However, speaking on the matter, Pastor Emmanuel Gaye, a cousin of the deceased, stated that Richard was not known for consuming alcohol or using drugs.

He called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to launch an investigation, citing multiple rumors surrounding the young man’s mysterious death.

Pastor Gaye also revealed that an individual identified only as Abraham had approached the family on Friday, claiming he knew Richard’s whereabouts.

Abraham allegedly requested money and gasoline to assist in finding him. The family provided the requested amount, along with additional funds for breakdown and fuel. However, the same individual later called another relative, demanding more money, stating that the initial sum was insufficient.

In a surprising turn of events, Abraham arrived at the scene around 3:00 PM this afternoon, riding a motorcycle with the plate name “AB,” after the deceased’s body had already been handed over to the family. His presence angered some aggrieved family members, who attempted to assault him.

However, officers of the Ganta City Corporation intervened and removed him from the area. Authorities have yet to confirm any leads in the case as the family continues to seek justice for Richard Gaye Grarmie.

Ganta City, the most populous city and commercial hub of the county has gained a notorious reputation for mysterious deaths, especially commercial motorcyclists.

Over recent years, residents have repeatedly woken to the discovery of lifeless bodies.

Among the most notable cases was the death of a football player who once represented Nimba County in the National County Sports Meet, as well as an unidentified individual—both bodies were discovered in late 2022.
