-As Liberians prepare for a possible runoff


Late Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the National Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah, confirms that the Commission has recorded 98.40% of the total results of last Tuesday’s elections- with incumbent President George Weah in the lead with seven hundred ninety-one thousand six hundred forty-one  (791,641), constituting 43.79 percent.

At Tuesday’s NEC regular election results briefing- Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah notes that the total votes from 5,890 polling places out of 5,996 polling places- Weah obtains seven hundred ninety-one thousand six hundred forty-one – 791,641 ( 43.79%) while the opposition Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer has so far accumulated seven hundred eighty-six thousand two hundred and five – 786,205 ( 43.49%).

In Bomi County (99.42% polling places), UP Joseph NyumaBoakai obtains 25, 258 (52.69%) votes, while CDC George Weah accumulates 18, 152 (37.86%) votes.

In Bong County, at 553 of the total number of 555 polling places (99.64%), CDC George Weah obtains 76, 776 (43.87%) votes, while UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai  accumulates 67, 124 (38.35%) votes.

In Grand Bassa County, at 405 of the total number of 405 polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 46, 651 (44.31%), while UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 

36, 214 (34.40%) votes.

In Grand Cape Mount County, at 192 of the total number of 213 (90.14%) polling places, UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai obtains 

23, 806 (43.08%) votes, while CDC

George Weah obtains 22, 908 (41.46%) votes.

In Grand Gedeh County, at 161 of the total of 163 (98.77%) polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 34, 419 (78.16%) votes, while UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai 4, 638 (10.53%) votes.

In Grand Kru County, at 109 of the total of 110 (99.09%) polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 24, 222 (79.55%) votes, while UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 

2, 556 (8.39%) votes.

In Margibi  County, at 397 of the total of 441 (90.02%) polling places, UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 57, 148 (47.38%) votes, while CDC George Weah obtains 49, 874 (41.33%) votes.

In Maryland County, at 167 of the total of 175 (95.43%) polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 34, 990 (73.03%) votes, while 

UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 5, 420 (11.31%) votes.

In Montserrado County, at 199, 208 (99.55%) polling places, UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 320, 727 (46.48%) votes, while CDC George Weah obtains 318, 053 (46.09%) votes.

In Nimba County, at 733 of the total of 736 (99.59%) polling places, UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 137, 433 (59.53%) votes, while CDC George Weah obtains 

50, 269 (21.77%) votes.

In Sinoe County, at 151 of the total of 152 (99.34%) polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 29, 621 (78.10%) votes, while 

UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 4, 467 (11.78%) votes.

In River Gee County, at 96 of the total of 98 (97.96%) polling places, CDC George Weah obtains 19, 130 (70.27%), while UP Joseph Nyuma Boakai accumulates 4, 417 (16.22%) votes.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission (NEC) through it chairperson, Davidetta Brown Lasanna has assured the Commission’s commitment to keeping the integrity of the commission in keeping with announcing the provisional and final results of the October 10, 2023 general elections.

She affirms the commission commitment to counting and announcing all ballots from the presidential and legislative elections. “All ballots will definitely be announced.” Madam Lasagna said.

The NEC boss went on by assuring Liberians and stakeholders that there will be no ballot left uncounted, un-tallied, and un-transmitted to the NEC data center. “As the NEC approaches the conclusion of the announcement of the provisional results of October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative results, the commission assures Liberian and all stakeholders that all ballots places in ballot boxes during voting which were counted at polling places on the day of voting, tallied at the magisterial tally center across the country and transmitted to the NEC data center and also collected for the presidential, senatorial, and representative elections will definitely be announced.”

The NEC boss further assured the public that the commission will maintain integrity throughout the elections, stating that it is cardinal to the sustainability of democracy and the peace and stability of Liberia. “The commission remain committed to the integrity of processing and announcing of votes of the Liberian people now and till the very end when the commission shall announce the final rounds of winners in the presidential and legislative elections in the coming days,” The NEC boss stated.

Meanwhile, in all efforts to maintain integrity during these critical time of announcing provisional results, MadamLansannah reported that investigation are ongoing in the allegations of data manipulation at the SKD data center.

“In the allegations data manipulation at the SKD data center, investigation are ongoing and the findings will be announced.”

At the same time, the NEC boss revealed that five elections officers who are all presiding officers at five different pulling places have being arrested and sent to jail for electoral mal-practice.
