At long last, the National Elections Commission (NEC), on Friday, 13 August certificated opposition candidate Simeon Boima Taylor of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), as senator of Grand Cape Mount County following the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Election.
The certification of Taylor by the NEC, follows an intense court battle in contestation of the Cape Mount senatorial election, by ruling party candidate Victor Wilson.
During the Friday’s certification program, the mandate of the Supreme Court of Liberia reaffirming the decision of the Board of Commissioners of NEC, declaring Taylor winner of the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Election, was read.
According to an NEC statement, the Taylor’s certification ceremony was performed by the Chairperson of NEC-Liberia, Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, at a colorful program in the James M. Fromayan Conference Hall at the Headquarters of NEC, on 9th Street, in Sinkor.
Responding, newly certificated Senator Taylor said, despite the many challenges, the Board of Commissioners stood their grounds to uphold the integrity of the Commission, which he said was under the public glance.
Senator Taylor said this is a victory for all including his major challenger, former Senator Victor Watson of the governing CDC.
