Sinoe County District #3 Representative claims, but…

During a recent consultative meeting between the Executive and Legislative Caucuses representing Liberia’s 15 counties, Sinoe County District #3 Representative Alex Noah expressed grave concerns regarding the inadequate police presence in his district, highlighting a significant security threat to the community.

Rep. Noah revealed that there are currently only five police officers assigned to District #3, which he described as a vast area that poses serious challenges to law enforcement. “Our district is very big; it is almost twice Montserrado County in size, but despite the size, there are only five assigned police officers, and this poses a security threat to the people in the district,” he stated.

When contacted to authenticate this claim, Liberia National Police (LNP) Spokesperson Cecelia Clarke said she had no idea about Rep. Noah’s claim and she couldn’t speak further on it at the moment.

Also, during the consultative meeting, Rep. Noah outlined the geographical context of his district, which is bordered by River Cess County to the west, Grand Gedeh County to the north, River Gee County to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. He urged the government to bolster the police force in the area to ensure the safety of residents.

On a more alarming note, Rep. Joshua reported that not only is there a shortage of police officers in his district, but the few that are assigned often neglect their duties. “Even though I said three, in a real sense, there are no police in the district at all because two of those officers will go and sit at the Cestos Bridge Check Point to hustle, while the other one assigns himself at the palm plantation company there,” he explained.

Criticized this situation, stating that it is detrimental to the safety of the community, particularly in light of the increasing drug trade in the area. Let me report that this district is one of the hubs for the illicit drug trade, and to have just three or no police assigned there at all is very dangerous to our people,” Rep. Goshua warned.

Both representatives are calling for immediate government intervention to enhance security measures in their districts and ensure the safety and well-being of their constituents. As the situation stands, the lack of adequate law enforcement poses a serious risk to public safety in Grand Bassa County.
