MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., called on Liberians to set aside divisions and embrace a shared responsibility for the nation’s fragile peace and future, in his 2026 National Unification Day message. The President framed the observance as more than a ceremonial holiday. He described it as a “celebration of our common nationhood” and warned that Liberia’s strength depends directly on how willingly its people move forward together.

“Our national story is one of perseverance, courage, faith, and renewal,” Boakai said. He praised Liberians for demonstrating “remarkable strength of character” through every difficult chapter of the country’s history, from civil conflict to economic hardship. The President deliberately turned his focus to Liberia’s youth, whom he called “the custodians of Liberia’s tomorrow.”

“You dream boldly. You work diligently. You remain committed to building a nation that reflects your highest aspirations,” Boakai told young Liberians directly. He also acknowledged elders, traditional leaders, religious communities, women, civil society, public servants, and diaspora Liberians, thanking them for their continued role in strengthening the nation’s moral and civic fabric.

Boakai made clear that government alone cannot unify the country. “Nation-building is not the work of government alone,” he said. “It calls upon each of us, regardless of where we come from or what perspectives we hold, to place country above self.”

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for young people, strengthening institutions, expanding economic possibilities, and ensuring that development reaches all communities. But he stressed that those efforts will succeed only if citizens embrace mutual respect and patriotic service. “Liberia’s future will take shape not simply by what government does, but by what all of us choose to do together as one people with one shared destiny,” Boakai said.

He closed the address with an urgent appeal: “Let us renew our commitment to peace, mutual respect, civic duty, and patriotic service. Let us continue to nurture a Liberia that inspires confidence, rewards hard work, embraces opportunity, and reflects the dignity of her people.” The President ended with the refrain: “Think Liberia, Love Liberia, Build Liberia.”
