-Koijee urges CDC Lawmakers, amid plans to oust Speaker Koffa
By Vaye A. Lepolu
Jefferson Koijee, the former city mayor and Secretary General of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has warned lawmakers within the party against any involvement in the ongoing discussions surrounding the potential impeachment of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa..
Koijee emphasized that those legislators who have been vocal about Koffa’s removal will find themselves at odds with the CDC. “This is a strong message to all CDC lawmakers to resist any attempts by Boakai and Koung to undermine Speaker Koffa through legislative means,” he declared.
He commended lawmakers who have demonstrated loyalty to Koffa, stating, “Those who stood firm in defending the Speaker’s position are appreciated for their commitment to the party and the integrity of our legislative body.”
Koijee accused members of the Unity Party of employing tactics designed to mislead the public into believing that the CDC is actively working to discredit Speaker Koffa. He affirmed that the Coalition for Democratic Change remains steadfast in its support for Koffa, asserting that the party is committed to protecting the Speaker’s office.
The Secretary General also made it clear that the power of impeachment lies solely with the sitting government, which he claims can leverage state resources to influence individual lawmakers. He announced that on October 22, the CDC, alongside its lawmakers, would march in solidarity with Speaker Koffi at the 55th National Legislature.
Furthermore, Koijee instructed CDC lawmakers in River Gee County, who may feel pressured by the current administration, to consider their allegiance to the party and to seek refuge within the CDC. He reiterated the party’s unwavering support for Speaker Koffa, criticizing any dissenting voices within the coalition.
“The CDC is firmly positioned to protect the office of the Speaker,” Koijee asserted. “We want the international community to understand that we are dedicated to preserving democracy in Liberia.”
In light of the current political climate, Koijee has called for all CDC officials and lawmakers to gather at the party headquarters for strategic meetings. He concluded by stating that Speaker Koffa has committed no offense warranting impeachment and deserves the support of the party and the people of Liberia.
