-Nimba Superintendent designate discloses

NIMBA COUNTY — Superintendent designate, Madam Kou Meapeh Gono has committed to building a safe and more equitable environment for vulnerable women and children.

“And we know that ending sexual and harmful practices against vulnerable mothers and girls are just not possible without addressing barriers that face these women,” she said.

Speaking to journalists following her acutance visit over the weekend in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, Madam Gono said her administration’s largest commitment ever will aimed at campaigning to equip and empower vulnerable women and children to enable them to overcome the obstacles that have held them back for generations.

The youthful female superintendent of Nimba County also promised a rebost administration, saying she has not come to the position for prestige, but with a commitment to regain the county’s pride, inclusive of prioritizing women and children.

Madam Gono’s vision also intends to protect women’s and children’s rights against all forms of violence hindered by unsafe and harmful attitudes toward the male gender.

She highlighted the importance of abandoned mothers and children’s access to clean water, improved healthcare, economic opportunities, quality education, emergency support services, and protection from gender-based violence remain key priorities on her desk.

The Nimba County Superintendent designate strongly emphasizes prioritization for vulnerable women and children’s rights, and the prevention of child abuse, neglect, and SGBV issues which remain increasingly high in the county.

Moreover, the Superintendent reaffirms her incoming administration’s commitment to promote and protect women and children against sexual-related offense cases.

Highlighting the significance of intervention and prevention, Madam Kou Meapeh Gono stresses the need for collaborative efforts with civil society, organizations, and key stakeholders to effectively address women and child welfare issues inclusively.

The 24th Superintendent urges citizens and residents of Nimba to champion women’s voices and provide a safe living environment for women and children, shielding them from any form of harm.

Her statements heightened awareness of protection and children’s rights, advocating for issues that concern women, and highlighting the important role women played in fostering development.

With a focus on decreasing discriminatory and harmful practices and attitudes that perpetuate sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls, the Nimba Superintendent aims to strengthen the capacity of the health and social services and sectors across the county’s nine electoral districts.

Meanwhile, commenting on a series of controversies surrounding the misappropriation and corruption saga involving the outgoing county’s administration, the youthful female superintendent promised to launch a most vigorous audit including government asset recovery, noting that no stone will be left untouched.

Ahead of their confirmation by the Liberian Senate, the local government appointees of Nimba County touchdown Nimba County subsequently traveled to Sanniquellie on Friday, March 29, 2024, to assess government facilities in the area.

The county’s local government team is comprised of Superintendent, Kou Meapeh Gono, County Inspector, Daniel Zekpeh, Assistant Superintendent for Development, Peter Kangbay, and Dudley Debois, Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affairs among others.

A convoy of the female superintendent and entourage arrived in Sanniquellie, greeted by scores of local and senior citizens including chiefs, elders, women, and youths showing up in long queues as they assessed various offices including the superintendent’s office where conversations on rebuilding were exchanged.
