The Liberia National Rural Women Montserrado County chapter President, Madam Korpo Howard, has admonished Women to take advantage of farming across the Country.

Speaking with scores of women Tuesday, at the Brewerville City Hill in District #17 Montserrado County- Madam Haword said President Weah gives three Million Liberian Dollars to the National Rural women to engage with farming and others to support their children and family members in schools.

It can be recalled that in September this year, President Weah through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry gave the Ruralwomen three Million Liberian Dollars, in fulfillment of his promise during his Counties tour.

At the recent occasion in Brewerville- Madam Haword said the three Million Liberian Dollars was given to districts that have farming areas including District 1 and 17 Montserrado County.

According to her, each District will receive one million dollars and the balance will be given to people living with disability. Madam Haword at the same time is calling on young people not to be used by politicians to engage with violence.

The president’s effort is to promote project development objectives and  improve social and livelihood services for women and girls in targeted communities. It is also intended to foster positive social norms and strengthen the government’s capacity to advance women and girls’ empowerment.

Agriculture is a key sector in the Liberian economy. It is a source of income for over 70% of the population. Agriculture accounts for 36% of the country’s GDP and constitutes an average of 14% of total export earnings.

In Liberia, women play a significant role in agriculture. They account for approximately 80% of the agricultural labor force and are responsible for 93% of food crop production.

Despite that, women face challenges in accessing agricultural inputs and financing, among others.
