Liberia Council of Churches former President Bishop Dr. Kortu K. Brown wants the government of Liberia and the entire citizenry to take the World Bank Poverty reports very seriously

The LCC former President Bishop Dr. Kortu K. Brown has expressed disappointment in recent World Bank Poverty reports released on Liberia, suggesting that over half of the population still living below the poverty line, saying it required collective efforts of everyone. 

Bishop Brown said after twenty years of peace in the country after the  civil war in the country it is unbelievable that Liberians still lacking behind in terms of development, living in poverty, locked of development despite the abounded natural resources provided God have blessed the country with.

The report finds that nearly 6 out of every 10 Liberians live in poverty based on the national poverty line. And in the context of multiple crisis, the plight of the poor has worsened, and the number of people in poverty have increased. Roughly 1,000,000 Liberian’s live in extreme poverty and 2.5 million in absolute poverty. 

The large numbers can sometimes be hard to grasp. But behind the numbers are individuals, the Poverty Assessment shows that face of poverty in Liberia is a young face.

It is more likely to be female. And it is much more likely to come from a rural area. It is the face of someone who has had little or no access to education, healthcare, and basic services like water and sanitation. 

He wants President Joseph N. Boakai to establish a Commission named and style Commission on Poverty eradication Poverty in the country, if the issue of poverty must be tangle in the country

The Liberia Council of Churches former President Bishop Dr. Kortu K. Brown is encouraging the government of Liberia to hold a National Conference that will bring to​ether expects together from across the country to review the World Bank Reports on Liberia to find a solution on how to address the issues of poverty in the country,

According to him, past and current leaders of the country always focusing on things that cannot address issues that are confronting the citizenry instead national leaders are boosting around only by having employment with government but they be made ashamed about the World Bank recent reports on poverty in the  country.

The LCC Former President Comments were in reactions to recent World Bank Poverty reports released on Liberia, suggesting that over half of the population still living below the poverty line.

“Liberia is not moving anywhere over the past years as a result of signing of bad cancelation agreement by the government in the country is highly contributing to increasing wave of poverty in the country”, the LCC Former President is quoted as saying   

Bishop Brown expressed disappointed and Challenged the Boakai, Koung administration and the National Legislature and the entire Citizens  to put hands on desk on the ground, saying the fight of poverty cannot be left with the ministry of Finance Development and Planning and others government ministries and agencies in the country.

“ I believe that President Joseph N. Boakai will do when he tackle the issue of poverty in the country base on his experienced in government couple with the agriculture sector in the country”, Bishop Kortu Brown has said.
