As youth development continues to be a major challenge in Liberia, one hundred and fifty Liberian youths are about to benefit from an initiative Design for Change ICAN club program launched by the Chief Executive Officer of a non-governmental Organization TEACH FOR LIBERIA Madam Alicia Ann Caesar at the Young Man Christian Association of Liberia (YMCA).
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the initiatives over the weekend in Monrovia, the Organization CEO Madam Alicia Ann Caesar said the 150 Young Liberians will be introduced to a design thinking approach that focuses on teaching ways of developing local and sustainable solutions in Liberia.
According to Madam Caesar, the ICAN club will focus on the impact of climate change and develop a practical applications hands-on curriculum that will center on poor waste management for Liberia primary students.
The young Liberian female told the gathering that the program is being implemented by Teach for Liberia in partnership with the Young Man Christian Association of Liberia.
She narrated by saying, “The program will create a platform where Liberian youth will be able to develop and learn each day about climate change impact and leadership.
Madam Caesar said the program will be held in phases and climaxed with an innovation solutions day where young people will be provided the platform to displace their ideas about what they learned and the winning team will walk away with school supplies.
She noted that the program is intended to support Goal 13 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which talked about urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts by strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.
At the same time, the Organization’s CEO called on the young people of Liberia to take the absolute opportunity of said program and should be creative in developing different ideas by turning waste materials into something substantial.
