… Naymote ED says, as President Meter Project Report gets underway
The Executive Director of Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, Eddie D. Jarwolo has stated that if people especially the government start improving on what they Promise to do during the elections period there will be an improvement in public trust and people will as well start liking the government and performance will increase.
“But, if you put something in the budget and you go to the ministry, like the Ministry of Education, you put together 15.1% of the National budget going to education for the first time, 85% going to recovering cost so, you only get 15% is not what you put in the manifesto that is one of the problems. You go to the Ministry of Health the budget is about 700 million dollars, it is just a peanut for a country; when you put that money in the budget one lawmaker makes 3000 every month for gasoline, and 45,000 for cars how much will leave there to implement the project,” he said. Mr. Jarwolo made these statements on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, when he appeared on the Super Morning Show on ELBC Radio in Paynesville.
Speaking on the work of Naymote in Liberia and the President Meter Project, Mr. Jarwolo stated that the President Meter Project is about performance. He indicated that for instance if the President’s manifesto promises to set things for education people don’t expect him to leave his office and get the Ministry of Education to do it, they expect the government to put money in the budget and get the Ministry of Education can deliver.
According to him, they expect that when the President Meter Project Report comes out it will set a slow. “Let’s see the report, let’s see what we did and where Naymote went wrong. Let’s see where we need to improve; if people start improving on what they promise to do there will be improvement in public trust, people will start trusting, and liking the government and performance will increase,” he said.
Mr. Jarwolo emphasized that people come to government to serve and “to know that when people get angry and go off head; they put money in the budget for people to be able to see what their democratic dividend come to them on and it will be better but all the money go back to the same elected officials with very little going to implementing projects”.
He mentioned that President Boakai came with a hundred days of deliverables which were tracked by Naymote and they released the report and gave the President 9% completed and 37% ongoing. He stated that after they released the report, the government brought their report claiming that they made 75% which is deceiving the President.
Mr. Jarwolo also urged President Boakai to be careful with such a report.
He revealed that they are currently tracking promises that were made during the campaign including during the inaugural speech.
“Do you know how many times the government changed the hundred days; the hundred days were released after three months? The government knew that they couldn’t make it they changed it and came out with an outdated version they called me and I told them no, I am tracking what you say you are going to do, be free, if you can’t make it you can’t make it because the time the hundred days was going on you didn’t have a budget. You were still discussing the budget; do you know the budget was passed and was put out and was put down and was put out again and even had a password, do you track that? What you want to hide. You have to be fair to the Liberian people and when there are challenges say it. That is the same thing the former President used to do, defend everything and people fool him today and it leads to different things; be real and make sure you have people around you who are sincere and want you to succeed,” he added.
Further speaking, Mr. Jarwolo stressed that confidence in the country is so high that people want to say that they are the best and it is not possible in a hundred days without a budget for the government to achieve 75% so they took UN Women, UNDP and UNHCR report and added it to promises and released it.
“If you have a government that will make promises and fulfill them careless about the lawmaker. This country can move forward if the President is willing to work for the Liberian people, put money in the budget, and implement projects. We sit with ministers, do you know that most of the promises they send to me are on WhatsApp? So, if you sent it to me I go to the manifesto and the ARREST document and screenshot and say these are the things they promise ELBC for example, and sent to Eugene Fargon and say these are the things the President promised to do can you give me the status and you will see them saying I don’t know how that thing got in the document and that is the thing we go through,” he indicated.
He told politicians to make sure what they say is what they are going to do because that is what the people voted for them.
“The Liberian people have decided to believe us. When we released the 100-day report it was widely discussed all over the country even on international media people were calling me for us to speak about it. Now we will be releasing a monthly report very soon on our President meter on the government,” he revealed.
