Cummings leaves court yard triumphantly

Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings has triumphantly walked out of Court after filing a valid criminal appearance bond at the Monrovia City Court on Tuesday January 4, 2022.

Judge Jomah Jallah released the Alternative National Congress Political Leader on bond after his appearance based on a writ of arrest served on him for alleged forgery and criminal conspiracy.

Mr. Cummings is the Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), one of four political parties that formed the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) that supposed to produce one formidable candidate to challenge President George Manneh Weah of the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC) in the upcoming 2023 presidential and representative elections.

It appears that the dream of collaborating has finally been bastardized with Urey’s recent action to suit Cummings. Commentators believe that it is most likely that no stronger coalition will be fomented against the ruling Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC).

It can be recalled that the Political Leader of ALL Liberian Party (ALP), Urey, filed a lawsuit against Cummings for alleged forgery and criminal conspiracy.

ALP complained to the court that its leaders’ signatures were “unlawfully attached” to the framework document of the CPP filed with National Elections Commission (NEC) under the leadership of Mr. Cummings.

Cummings appeared at the Temple of Justice with huge supporters, sympathizers and members of ANC, including his team of lawyers: Atty. Oratio Gould, Cllr. Aloysius Toe, alongside Liberty Party Chairman Musa Bility.

Cummings in open court denied having any link or idea to the allegations levied by Mr. Benoni Urey’s All Liberian Party, which prompted Judge Jallah to release Mr. Cummings on grounds that he has secured the required bond.

Despite speculation that the government is allegedly manipulating the ALP to sue him, Liberia’s Solicitor General Syrenius Cephus, who was in court during the proceeding, openly said the court has accessed Cummings’ bond and as an honorable person, he should be released.

“Cummings is an honorable man and should not be treated ordinarily because he has secured a bond. He is free to go anywhere,” Cllr. Cephus said.

Cllr. Cephus also pointed out that the essence of the bond is to ensure the day-to-day appearance of Cummings at the court.

Addressing supporters after the court proceeding, Cummings said Urey and his likes have made him (Cummings) more popular with their false allegation. He lauded his supporters and those who stood by him at the court.

“They have made me more popular because I have strong reputation that the Liberian people trust”, he said

However, Cummings said the situation would not divide the CPP, which he said is determined to make George Weah a one-term President.

The complainant, Urey and his Party Chairman were not seen at the court hearing.

Cummings Has since termed the legal action against him as being political and an attempt to discredit him.
