MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a move during their regular General Assembly held on Friday, July 17, 2026, the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) and the University of Liberia Staff Association (ULSA) have unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in three senior university officials.
The vote targets UL President, Acting Vice President for Fiscal Affairs and Finance, and the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, citing longstanding grievances over employee welfare and institutional governance.
In a simultaneous resolution, the General Assembly voted to suspend all academic and administrative activities indefinitely. The work stoppage will remain in effect until a series of demands are fully met with demonstrable implementation. Key demands include the regularization of NASSCORP contributions, a 40% salary increment, resolution of pay disparities and salary adjustments, change of employment status for affected staff, and the provision of operational funds for various university units.
In an official statement, the unions have mandated all faculty and staff to withdraw from university duties until further notice from ULFA and ULSA leadership. The statement warns that any member found violating this directive will face disciplinary action from the union leadership. Additionally, supervisors and vice presidents have been cautioned against pressuring employees to resume normal work activities against the will of the General Assembly.
The unions have called on all stakeholders—including students, parents, and the broader academic community—to take note of the situation and urged the administration to act swiftly to resolve the impasse.
“This decision was not made lightly, but it reflects the deep frustration and unity of our members,” the statement reads. “We remain open to dialogue, but only when clear and verifiable steps are taken to address our demands.”
The university administration has not yet issued an official response to the developments.
