The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Dr. Sennen Houton, has reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to supporting adolescents in Liberia. During his visit to Cestos on Monday, September 9, as part of a broader tour of the country, Dr. Houtonexpressed his admiration for the positive feedback received from local citizens regarding the impact of UNFPA’s initiatives.
In a series of interactive meetings with citizens at the office of River Cess County Superintendent Byron Zahnwea, Dr. Houtonengaged with students and young people, emphasizing that the UNFPA will continue to collaborate with the Liberian government through various programs aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for the country’s youth.
Dr. Houton praised the Liberian government for its ongoing partnership and commitment to the UNFPA’s mission. He highlighted that the successes reported by the residents of River Cess County would not have been possible without the government’s support and cooperation.
During the discussions, students Shelley Joe and BennetaJulutoe shared personal testimonies about how UNFPA’s programs have positively influenced their lives and educational journeys. Dr. Houton encouraged all students to prioritize their education and to delay parenthood until they are better prepared, emphasizing the importance of focusing on their studies.
The support provided by UNFPA, particularly through its collaboration with the Ng Men Christian Association (YMCA), has been instrumental in enabling these young individuals to continue their education.
