President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has warned his cabinet members against malpractice and inefficiency in his government, stating that, a hidden agenda surely intended for business as usual will not be tolerated under his administration.
“If you come to the cabinet to do the same thing that you think used to happen, with adequate information we are going to come behind you. Once we identify and make sure we know them, you are going to leave and when you leave, I don’t care who asks for you to come back, you are not coming back.” he warned.
Speaking at the opening of the fifth cabinet meeting of his administration, on Friday, August 2, 2023, the Liberian leader noted that it’s about time that government officials serve the Liberian people. Therefore, he said if any official goes out of order and is dismissed, will not return to his cabinet.
“I tell you people we are here to serve the Liberian people. Anybody who comes with a hidden agenda, you may be here but when we fire you, we are not going to the person who recommended you. It’s about time that we know we are serving the Liberian people. I am not afraid of anybody. God will protect me.”
The President stated that from the inception of his government, he decided to bring in people with integrity who have love for the country and are willing to serve for the good of the country. He added that if anyone starts to miss the mark, it is a signal that said person is telling him that he has made a mistake, but asserted that he is very sure of what he is doing.
“When we started bringing ministers, we decided to bring people with integrity. People that love the country and want a good country. The moment you start missing that, you are telling me that I made a mistake and I don’t think I made a mistake.” Boakai asserted
At the same time, the Liberian leader charged his Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Cllr. J. Oswald Tweh to not hesitate when it comes to bringing to justice suspects of corruption identified by a proper audit report. The Liberian leader added that he harbor no fear in bringing to justice, saying that he has no hidden agenda in his closet. “Do not be afraid Minister of Justice. Just make sure you do the right thing to bring them to justice.”
President Boakai continued by intimating that his government will continue to go after people who have looted state coffers.
Adding that accountability is what the Liberian people want. “We will run after them and bring them to justice even if they call him witch-hunt but the Liberian people will appreciate.”
