MONROVIA – WomenVoices Newspaper, widely regarded as Liberia’s most equitable news outlet, has appointed Mr. Jerromie S. Walters as Desk Editor, effective March 11, 2026. Walters, an award-winning investigative journalist, ascends to the post after nearly three years as Sub-Editor at the publication. He joined WomenVoices in 2022 and has steadily taken on increased responsibility, advancing from Reporter to Sub-Editor before his latest promotion.
A Bachelor of Arts degree candidate at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University (AMEZU), Walters also holds an Advanced Diploma in Journalism. His professional career began as a reporter for Women’s TV Liberia, followed by roles at Brush FM 94.7 and Cyclone News Online. His work has drawn recognition from several institutions, including the MediaAid Foundation, Second Chance Foundation among others.
In 2024, he was selected as a Fellow for both the Internews/USAID Liberia Media Empowerment Project and the Internews Environmental and Climate Reporting Fellowship. That same year, Youth Media Action – Liberia named him 1st Runner-Up for the Best Young Journalist Award. Beyond the newsroom, Walters serves as a Trainer at the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism, where he instructs courses in News Writing and Journalism Ethics.
His investigations have prompted government action. In 2024, Walters examined climate change’s toll on Liberia’s fishing industry, detailing how rising sea temperatures and declining fish stocks had devastated local fishermen. His report found that many could no longer afford government license fees, leading to a revenue shortfall for the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA).
Following the story, NaFAA convened crisis talks with fishermen and, in 2025, established an Environment and Climate Change Department to integrate climate resilience into its policies. In early 2025, Walters uncovered a resurgence of female genital mutilation (FGM) despite a 2022 government ban. His reporting showed that the removal of key anti-FGM stakeholders and the abandonment of alternative livelihood centers for former practitioners had weakened enforcement.
In October 2025, he reported on an impending government eviction threatening thousands of families, including many children, in the Hotel Africa communities of The Villa, Blessed Road, and Pre-Fab.
Walters has been trained by several reputable International and local non-governmental organizations, including UN Women, Africa Check, Dubawa, Internews, CENTAL, Local Voices, and more.
