As it is vividly stated in the famous African book tagged ‘Things Fall Apart’,” “it is only a madman that goes to bed with his roof on fire. Liberians (especially women) are entangled in fear, considering the high rate of insecurity and the frightening acts that are being portrayed without being investigated.

This fear Liberians have grown to have about who’s going to be the next victim is greatly influenced by the numerous mysterious killings and the fact that their concerns are no longer being heard, even though they have been expressed through several civil means that have literally never yielded the result(s) they anticipated.

As we can personally record and as a lot of other Liberians may know, tens of protests have been simultaneously held in Liberia, especially following the occurrence of a mysterious death or some kind of unimaginable violence, but Liberians continue to experience these troubling acts even at an overpowering extent because of the Liberia National Police’s reluctance in adequately probing matters of national concern and the government’s inability to implement the necessary laws that prohibit these acts.

As many Liberians can justify the alarming rate of mysterious and secret killings across the country, coupled with the rapid increase in the occurrences of all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, Liberians (especially women)  are eager to see their president and government, in general, take the needed step (s) in order to ensure that an adequate remedy is found.

However, this overdue desire of many Liberians seems to be ignored on a daily basis, as the lips of the most powerful man, who has every legal and constitutional authority to provide a solution, are as static as a lifeless body, while many continue to fall prey to this horrible nightmare.

Despite this level of silence by the government, Liberians, and women especially, still seem not to be exhausted, as they have continuously made efforts to get the government’s attention in order to ensure a safe space for all Liberians.

We see the government’s silence with regard to the security threat of the state as not just a disappointment for Liberians but as a broken hope.

Over the last few years, Liberians have experienced and continue to experience scores of unexplained and secret deaths, which at some points were attributed to the government, as well as different forms of violence against women and girls.

As far as we can record, the incident at the home of the former Chief Justice, the mysterious deaths of Saybah Harmon of Mount Barclay 2022 and Princess Cooper in 2022, and the gruesome deaths of several auditors, including the Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, Emmanuel Barten Nyenswa, George Fanbutu, Gifty Lama, and Albert Peters, are genuine reasons why the government should act now.

As we are of the belief that the security challenge Liberia is confronted with is alarming, and considering the skepticism of Liberians to know the root cause (S) of the multiplicity of secret killings across the country, we are calling on the government to seek the intervention of its foreign allies (especially the US Government), to firstly probe these incidents.

Additionally, we are calling on the government to increase its support to the Liberia National Police and other investigative forces to enable them to execute their duties effectively and adequately engage in matters that are of public interest.

Howbeit, if proactive steps are not taken by the Executive and Legislative branches of government to address the high level of insecurity Liberia is engulfed with, a possible flashback or similar unorthodox acts like the incident in Gbarpolu County when a man allegedly used a razor blade to open the vagina of a 3year old girl, and raped her, the alleged kidnapper of a 13-year-old girl in Gbah Jacket, Bomi County while she was selling fish and chicken feet, the death of Williams V.S Tubman Jr, the son of former president Williams V.S Tubman who was discovered dead at his Flamah resident in the pool of blood, the mysterious death of Ms. Maud Elliot, an officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) who was secretly murdered at her resident in Brewerville, and many other unexplained deaths should be expected.
